En este relato Saviano recuerda su juventud, en la que conoció a la camorra y se centra en el destino de Giusseppe y su madre, claro ejemplo de la carencia de medios de la Italia pobre y condenada a pasar por el ingrato aro de la mafia.Este libro es un breve aperitivo, una pieza demasiado breve y que puede completar Gomorra para retratar la realidad de la sociedad italiana actual, la que no se conoce pero la que sufre (o hace sufrir). Lo contrario de la muerte es, tal vez, un libro que no se comprende lo suficiente en su contexto sin la lectura previa de Gomorra. Roberto Saviano sabe mucho y sabe contarlo, pero el problema de la literatura es que, cuando se cuenta la verdad, parece ficción, y cuando se novela, parece que se dice la verdad.
