Bite Me
Moore Christopher

The city of San Francisco is being stalked by a huge shaved vampyre cat named Chet, and only I, Abby Normal, emergency backup mistress of the Greater Bay Area night, and my manga-haired love monkey, Foo Dog, stand between the ravenous monster and a bloody massacre of the general public.

Whoa. And this is a love story? Yup. 'Cept there's no whining. See, while some lovers were born to run, Jody and Tommy were born to bite. Well, reborn, that is, now that they're vampires. Good thing theirs is an undying love, since their Goth Girl Friday, Abby Normal, imprisoned them in a bronze statue.

Abby wants to be a bloodsucking fiend, too, but right now she's really busy with other stuff, like breaking in a pair of red vinyl thigh-high Skankenstein® platform boots and wrangling her Ph.D.-candidate boyfriend, Steve (the love monkey). And then there's that vampire cat Chet, who's getting bigger and smarter – and thirstier – by the minute. Abby thought she and Steve could handle the kitty cat on their own, mais non…

Before you can say "OMG! WTF?" Tommy and Jody are sprung from captivity, and join forces with Abby, Steve, the frozen-turkey-bowling Safeway crew, the Emperor of San Francisco and his trusty dogs Lazarus and Bummer, Abby's gay Goth friend Jared, and SF's finest Cavuto and Rivera to hunt big cat and save the city. And that's when the fun really begins.

Bitten
Armstrong Kelley

It's not easy to find a fresh angle for the werewolf theme, but this debut novel from a Canadian writer proves that solid storytelling and confident craftsmanship can rejuvenate one of the hoariest of all horror clich‚s. Elena Michaels is a self-described "mutt," a werewolf who left her secretive pack in upstate New York for a life among humans. In the year since she relocated to Toronto, she's embarked on a career as a journalist and begun a pleasingly mundane relationship with a decent man. All this is jeopardized when she agrees to help her old packmates hunt some troublesome mutts who are converting common criminals to werewolves and leaving a trail of conspicuous carnage. Reunited with her former lycanthrope lover and forced into brutally predatory confrontations, Elena finds the call of the wild subtly reasserting itself. Armstrong prepares readers for her tale's twists with several key revisions of werewolf lore the werewolf taint is mostly hereditary, and werewolves can be killed as easily as any human or wolf. Her true achievement, though, is her depiction of werewolf nature in believably human context. Elena's feral sensibility, like her psychological vulnerabilities, seems a natural outgrowth of her abusive childhood, and her relationship with the pack is that of any prodigal child to a close-knit family. The sensuality of Elena's transformations and the viciousness of her kills mesh perfectly with her tough personality. Filled with romance and supernatural intrigue, this book will surely remind readers of Anne Rice's sophisticated refurbishings of the vampire story.

Black Cobra (Aaron Quinn[2])
Avery John

What if John Grisham wrote a James Bond thriller starring Harry Potter?

HE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN… to help crew a luxury motor yacht on a month long voyage from the Caribbean to California.

HOW COULD HE KNOW… that the man at the helm was a cold-blooded killer and part of an international conspiracy to assassinate the U.S. President, or that their welcome party in San Diego aboard a rusting Russian submarine would turn deadly?

THE CLOCK STARTS TICKING… when the antique submarine is suddenly locked down and highjacked by the gang of conspirators whose psycho leader is insane enough to think he can dive the old relic and use it as a weapon against the President.

THE WALLS CLOSE IN… on Aaron Quinn and his companions when the old sub’s crumbling hull and motors fail at depth, leaving them stranded on the bottom, flooding rapidly with freezing seawater, with limited oxygen and no way out, giving Aaron two terrifying choices:

1) Give up the fight and let himself, his friends, his loved ones, and the President of the United States die…

2) Eliminate the murderous gang one by one and pull off an impossible underwater rescue…

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE HIM?
