Hierzulande erlangte sein Buch in den sechziger Jahren große Popularität, als die Bootsfahrt – verlegt in die damalige Bundesrepublik – mit Heinz Erhardt, Walter Giller und Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff verfilmt wurde.
