Jej wysiłki okazują się daremne, kariera jej wybrańca nie udaje się, on z kolei wpada teraz w sidła ambitnych planów własnej żony. Wajda przedstawił świat, w którym mężczyźni są coraz słabsi, coraz mniej romantyczni i męscy, a kobiety coraz bardziej władcze, dominujące nad mężczyznami, chwytanymi przez nie jak muchy na lep. To satyryczna, pełna ironii, gorzka, ale niezbyt realistyczna wizja społeczeństwa zdominowanego przez płeć niezupełnie słabszą.
